Listening campaign – volunteer now!

At the branch AGM in March, a motion was agreed for the branch to engage with all its members via a “listening campaign”.

A listening campaign is a focused effort to build community and identify concerns and priorities in a specific organisation. It is accomplished through one-to-one or small group meetings facilitated by leaders. Meetings usually last 45-60 minutes and take the form of face-to-face conversations where people can share their stories, ideas and concerns.

The branch’s listening campaign will aim to improve connections within the branch, identify issues of concern for members and develop new branch activists. Results will be collated and key action points produced to be included in an improvement plan.

A sub-committee will be set up, open to all branch members interested in taking an active role in the listening campaign.

No specific skills are required – the most important ingredients will be enthusiasm and a commitment to improving how our union branch functions. There will be additional benefits to those who get actively involved in terms of training and development. Joining in will give you experience in: 

  • actively participating in a committee 
  • business analysis, planning, and improvement 
  • decision making 
  • strategy development 
  • a highly effective community engagement model (listening campaign)

This could be an ideal way to position yourself for the challenges ahead. Or simply an opportunity to put skills you already have to effective use for the improvement of our branch. There will be additional development opportunities for the subcommittee’s chair. Please also let us know if you are interested in this role.

The final numbers and make up of the sub-committee are to be agreed depending on interest. Opportunities to take part in conversations during the later stages will be made available at the time.
